A Target Account List (TAL) is the foundation of any account-based outbound strategy. Instead of casting a wide net, you identify specific high-fit companies and run coordinated, personalized outreach toward them. Here's how to build one that converts.
Your ICP defines the type of company. Your TAL is a specific list of companies that match it. Selection criteria for accounts typically include:
Use Apollo, ZoomInfo, or LinkedIn Sales Navigator with your account-level filters to generate an initial list of matching companies. This is your universe — typically 500–2,000 companies depending on how niche your ICP is.
Not all accounts are equal. Prioritize your list based on fit score:
For each company on your list, identify 1–3 decision makers with buying authority for your category. Collect their verified email and direct phone number. For Tier 1 accounts, add a personalization note for each contact.
Assign accounts by territory, vertical, or rep preference. Track engagement at the account level — not just by individual contact — so you can see when multiple people from the same company have interacted with your outreach.
