There's a difference between a prospect list and a prospect list that sales reps actually use. The first kind gets built and ignored. The second kind gets picked up immediately and worked hard. Here's how to build the second kind.
Before building anything, sit down (or message) the reps who will use the list. Ask:
This single conversation prevents you from building 500 contacts for companies that are too large, too small, or in verticals that never close.
A list of 300 fully complete records is worth more than 1,000 records with missing emails, wrong titles, or no phone numbers. Sales reps stop using a list the moment they hit a string of bad data — it erodes their confidence in the whole file.
Minimum fields for a usable list:
Reps lose time chasing contacts who can recommend but not buy. Build lists around people who have budget authority — typically VP-level and above, or Founders and Directors at small companies.
One of the biggest upgrades you can make to a prospect list is adding a "personalization note" column — one relevant fact per contact that a rep can drop into the first line of an email. Examples:
This turns a generic list into a research deliverable that reps genuinely value.
Run every email through NeverBounce before handing the list over. A rep who hits 5 bounces in their first 10 outreaches loses confidence in the entire file immediately.
