The power of modern B2B prospecting tools is in their filters. Instead of generating generic lists, you can drill down to the exact type of company and buyer you want — by industry, location, size, and title — in minutes. Here's how to do it effectively.
Industry filtering lets you target specific verticals where your product fits best. In Apollo, ZoomInfo, or LinkedIn Sales Navigator, you can filter by broad categories (e.g., Technology, Healthcare, Finance) or drill into sub-industries (e.g., SaaS, Medical Devices, Fintech). Be specific — "Technology" returns millions of results; "B2B SaaS, 10–200 employees" returns a manageable, targeted pool.
Location filters work at the country, state/region, and city level. For high-touch outreach, city-level targeting lets you build lists for local events or territory-specific campaigns. For remote-first products, country-level filtering by your target markets is usually sufficient.
Company size (by headcount) is one of the most important filters for targeting correctly. Small businesses (1–50), mid-market (51–500), and enterprise (500+) have completely different buying processes, budget cycles, and decision-making structures. Filter to the range where your deal economics make sense.
Job title filtering lets you target the exact decision-maker level you need. Best practices:
The real power comes from combining all four filters. Example: SaaS companies + US-based + 50–200 employees + VP of Marketing. This narrows millions of potential contacts to a precise, high-quality segment that matches your ICP exactly.
